New Induction Heating System for Forjasul

Forjasul Canoas from Rio Grande do Sul, a Brazilian producer of forged hardware like hand tools (axes, bench vices), hooks, and numerous varieties of electrical hardware, has ordered a new induction-heating system from SMS Elotherm. The contractor will supply its EloForge™ system and integrate it into Forjasul’s existing plant, customizing the operation to match the production requirements.

With the nominal power of 500 KW, the new EloForge system will heat up to 1,250 kg/hour of steel billets with diameters to 51 mm, to the required temperature of 1,250°C.

EloForge is a customizable product line adaptable to single or multistage configurations, for example where billets of different sizes may pushed through several inductors in succession: overheating of the tail ends is prevented by the customized design. Elotherm plants will meet almost all requirements with regard to materials, including steel, aluminum, copper, titanium, and specialty nonferrous materials.

“EloForge is part of our ForgeLine™ and recently it has been re-engineered completely,” according to Elotherm do Brazil General Manager Jose Machado. “It provides a compact design and consists of different modules. These can be combined flexibly to achieve optimal productivity, stable processes and high product quality.”

The EloForge package is available for heating billets up to 100 mm diameter, or for slabs up to 240 mm thick, as well as for bar material up to 360 mm OD.

Forjasul will commission its new EloForge system in spring 2013. SMS noted it is one of two orders for EloForge systems now in progress in Brazil, strengthening its regional market position for forging equipment.

Forjasul Canoas is part of the Tramontina Group, and specializes in parts for high-voltage transmission lines, equipment for steelmaking, shipyards, and oilfield applications.

SMS Elotherm GmbH is part of the SMS group, which is a group of companies active in plant construction and mechanical engineering for the steel and nonferrous metals industries worldwide.
