South African company to apply for liquidation.

Atlantis Forge (Pty) Ltd, with forging and machining operations in Atlantis, Western Cape, South Africa, apparently is applying for liquidation.

It has informed the union for its workforce that since creditors were not being paid they were not willing to supply the company with raw materials, tooling or coolant and the company could not continue with production for the time being.

According to press reports, the notice to the union said: "That gives the company no other choice but to send the employees home immediately until further notice. We cannot make a commitment to pay employees if they render a service.”

Atlantis Forge is 46 percent owned by South Africa’s Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). It has specialized in drop-forged carbon and alloy steel diesel engine camshafts and crankshafts for use in the automotive and other industries.
