Telit Cinterion has partnered with Airfide Networks to integrate ultra-wideband (UWB) localization and 60 GHz millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar into platforms powered by its FN990B40 5G sub-6 data card—turning standard 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) infrastructure into multifunction enterprise IoT platforms.

The FN990B40 supports 5G New Radio (NR), LTE, WCDMA, and integrated GNSS in a compact form factor built for FWA gateways, enterprise gateways, and repeater applications.

Airfide's FiRa-compliant UWB technology delivers high-accuracy indoor positioning for warehouses, distribution centers, and enterprise campuses—tracking assets and personnel across large facilities with finer resolution than Bluetooth Low Energy alternatives. OEMs building on FN990B40-based platforms can embed geofencing and asset tracking directly into their 5G infrastructure without additional hardware layers.

The 60 GHz radar leverages 4 GHz of unlicensed spectrum through a four-receiver, three-transmitter architecture capable of sub-centimeter sensing precision. Embedded into FN990B40-based platforms, it supports real-time occupancy detection, people and object tracking, fall detection for older adult care, and live health monitoring, including heart rate and pulse. Because sensing is anonymous and camera-free, it's suited for healthcare facilities, public venues, and other privacy-sensitive environments.

In Japan, operators are already evaluating the architecture for 5G repeater deployments as a way to layer value-added sensing and analytics services on top of existing coverage infrastructure.

"5G is no longer just about faster broadband," said Venkat Kalkunte of Airfide Networks. "We've embedded our UWB and mmWave radar technologies into platforms powered by Telit Cinterion's FN990B40. This enables OEMs and operators to deploy intelligent, high-precision IoT services directly within their 5G infrastructure."

"The FN990B40 was designed to power advanced 5G FWA and enterprise applications," said Neset Yalcinkaya, president of IoT hardware at Telit Cinterion. "This partnership demonstrates how sub-6 5G data card platforms can serve as the foundation for localization, sensing, and new monetization opportunities worldwide."
