Zoller's coraVarion Cell Finds and Replaces Worn Inserts Automatically
Zoller's coraVarion flexible automation cell for indexable insert changing, tool presetting, and measurement made its North American debut at IMTS 2026, showing manufacturers how they can reduce manual intervention, improve process consistency, and increase their productivity.
The video shows the coraVarion/micBox configuration at work. Tools arrive on a smartPallet, where the cell automatically identifies each one, and the robot picks the right one for the job. A sensor inspects each tool for worn inserts and fastening screws, and the cell replaces them automatically, changing grippers and toolholders as needed. According to Zoller, the setup supports fast, fully automated changeovers and keeps the system available for production.
The modular automation cell is built around a robot module and production control software that prioritizes and runs tasks automatically. Shops can configure the cell with Zoller's micBox, a standalone system for indexing, rotating, and replacing indexable inserts; a venturion machine for tool presetting and measurement (which isn't shown in the video); or both. A smartPallet interface module lets tools arrive by autonomous mobile robot (AMR) or manual loading, so shops already running AMRs can connect the cell to their existing material flow.
For shops handling high volumes of indexable-insert milling tools, the cell takes two repetitive toolroom tasks off skilled staff.
