Welding Wire Extends Die Life in Extreme Heat

WELD MOLD COMPANY introduced a new welding wire it indicated will extend press die life in "extreme heat conditions" by providing superior hardness retention in temperatures as high as 1,200°F. In addition, it noted Weld Mold® 5551 is priced approximately 50% less than commonly used cobalt materials.

The supplier also noted that material tests prove that the hardness capabilities of formula 5551 continue to improve as the temperature increases.

According to the developer Weld Mold 5551 is well suited for the forging industry because of its higher physical properties, and its excellent performance in higher temperatures. Formula 5551 is highly resistant to heat checking in environments where coolants are used, extremely abrasion resistant and tolerant of compressive loads.

In addition, with a 30% higher deposition rating than typical flux-cored wire, formula 5551 offers high weldability for general welding applications.

Weld Mold 5551 is suitable as an overlay on punches, mandrels, hot working dies, forming rolls, and performs extremely well in areas subjected to prolonged high temperatures.

Extrusion dies also benefit from its higher wear capabilities.
