Micro-leaks in modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) are among the leading causes of food quality loss, customer complaints, and waste, often going undetected until the damage is already done. Witt Gas Controls' LEAK-MASTER ONE is an inline system that detects micro-leaks of CO2 in MAP packaging, checking individual products one by one as they move through the packaging line.

The system uses a vacuum testing method paired with infrared sensors to identify leaks with a detection threshold of about 0.0004 in (10 microns), catching the small breaches that gradually compromise a package's protective atmosphere and often aren't caught until later in the supply chain. Twelve mini vacuum chambers operate in parallel, loaded automatically by pick-and-place robotics, giving the system a testing capacity of up to 120 packages per minute while still evaluating each package individually rather than by batch or sample. Each leak is detected and documented on a product-by-product basis, allowing defective packages to be identified and removed from the line individually. The system is suitable for MAP applications containing a minimum of 10% CO2, excluding those with an oxygen content above 20.9%.
