PVD Coated Inserts Speed Up Machining Stainless Steel

Dec. 15, 2015

Due to PVD aluminum oxide coating and high temperature wear resistance, Tiger·tec Silver PVD inserts speed up some small steel (ISO-P) components in mass production, and for difficult ISO-M and ISO-S machining. The latter materials are poor thermal conductors, so the resistance leads to longer tool life, higher cutting speed capability.

Three positive geometries are available:  FM4 for finishing operations, MM4 for universal use including both 7° and 11° positive rake, and RM4 for roughing operations.

  • PVD aluminum oxide coating
  • Surface smoothing on the rake face reduces friction, heat
  • Lower PVD layer thicknesses, very sharp cutting edges are maintained for a soft cutting action or low cutting forces
  • FM4: finishing operations
  • MM4: universal use including both 7° and 11° positive rake
  • RM4: roughing operations.
