Ixxat CAN@net Basic Gateway Bridges CAN FD and Ethernet

HMS Networks' Ixxat CAN@net Basic gateway uses UDP/IP communication to minimize latency and jitter in distributed CAN FD networks.

Distributed industrial and automotive systems that need to exchange CAN FD data across multiple nodes often hit hard limits—bus length, node count, and the cost of full-featured gateways. The Ixxat CAN@net Basic is a CAN FD-to-Ethernet gateway designed to extend those networks over Ethernet infrastructure without overbuilding the solution.

UDP/IP communication reduces protocol overhead and interrupt load, enabling low latency with controlled jitter—a tradeoff that TCP-based approaches typically can't achieve without aggregation delays.

The gateway supports one CAN CC/CAN FD channel with data rates up to 8 Mbit/s and one RJ45 Ethernet channel, with ASCII interface mode for straightforward integration.

A USB Type-C port (USB 2.0 high-speed, 480 Mbit/s) provides an additional interface option. Galvanic isolation is rated at 2.5 kV on the CAN side and 1.5 kV on Ethernet.

The DIN rail housing measures 4.25 x 5.87 x 1.06 in (108 x 149 x 27 mm) and carries an IP20 ingress protection rating. Operating temperature range is -13° to 185°F (-25° to 85°C).
