Wieland Electric, Inc. has developed a family of safety light grids, enabling machine design engineers to implement effective and economical optoelectronic safety barriers around machinery in harsh industrial environments.

The SLD Series light grids are available in 2-, 3-, and 4-beam resolutions, and are capable of ranges spanning 0.5m to 70m. Rated for operating temperatures from -30°C to 55°C, they are suitable for Type 4 safety systems and feature a robust aluminum housing sealed to IP67 standards, multibeam scanning to avoid unwanted shutdowns, and adjustable range reduction to avoid mutual interference when implementing several adjacent systems. SLD Series light grids provide high-reliability performance in even the harshest environments. They are easily serviced via an M12 quick connect port.  

"The optional integrated laser alignment tool facilitates convenient initial installation and simplifies maintenance by ensuring the correct tool is available if the light grid needs realignment during its service life," said Martin Lalonde, application engineer at Wieland Electric.

SLD Series safety light grids are available in three models: Standard, Select, and Universal. Ideal for higher range applications, the SLD Standard and SLD Select models each consist of a transmitter and a receiver unit, are compatible with 2-, 3-, and 4-beam systems, and support ranges spanning 0.5 to 50m and 20 to 70m. Both feature LED displays, multiscan technology, range reduction, and automatic start, and are compatible with the optional laser alignment aid, which enables precise mounting and reduces startup times.

SLD "Select" models also have a manual start/restart interlock feature and can perform external device monitoring (EDM).SLD Universal models consist of a 2- or 3-beam transmitter/receiver unit and a passive reflector unit without an electrical connection, which requires less cabling.

Universal SLD light grids support a range of 0.5 to 8m, feature an LED display, multiscan technology, automatic start, manual start/restart interlock, and EDM.

SLD Series light grids are sold with a wide range of accessories that can enhance installation and performance, including: mounting brackets, support clips, reflector columns, device columns, laser alignment, and mounting accessories.

SLD Series devices are approved for monitoring and control of machines in safety applications in accordance with category 4, PLe (EN13849-1) and SIL3 (EN626061) standards.
