AE-Stop Switch Adds Solenoid for Remote Activation

IDEC’s AE-Stop assisted emergency stop switch latches by hand or by solenoid, resetting only manually at the switch.

Moving robots, AGVs, AMRs, and conveyed payloads can put a conventional e-stop out of a worker’s reach at the moment it’s needed. IDEC's AE-Stop assisted emergency stop switch addresses that with a 24V DC solenoid that drives the button into its push-latched state on a remote signal, as if a person had pressed it.

The activation signal can come from another safety device, an external sensor or controller, or a wireless system. Whether a person or the solenoid latches the switch, it can only be reset locally and manually. The switch itself is safety-rated, but the solenoid assist function is not, so remote activation supplements a designed safety function rather than replacing one.

Built on the same platform as the XW series e-stops, the switch uses a reverse energy structure, with a spring arranged to operate the e-stop if the switch is physically damaged in certain ways. It mounts in a standard 0.87 in. (22 mm) hole and carries IP65 and UL Type 4X (indoor) ratings.
