NSC 2026: SHK-2 Safety Helmet Cuts Heat Without Fans or Batteries
Debuted at the 2026 NSC Safety Congress & Expo in Indianapolis, the SHK-2 Safety Helmet addresses the heat that builds up around the head for crews required to wear safety helmets through full shifts, without the added weight of bolt-on fans or battery packs. It's an industrial safety helmet built with an all-Koroyd interior that absorbs impact energy and dissipates heat in a lower-profile design.
The SHK-2 is available in Standard Brim and Full Brim models, with first shipments expected in Q4 2026. A CSA-certified version is targeted for Q1 2027.
The helmet has no EPS foam. Precision-welded Koroyd tubes fill the space under the shell and form a crumple zone across the entire surface of the helmet to absorb high-velocity impacts. The same tube structure creates high-airflow pathways that move heat away from the head. Cooling is built into the helmet itself, with no fans or battery packs.
The SHK-2 is designed, engineered, and built to comply with the ANSI/ISEA Z89.1-2026 Type II+ standard, protecting against both top and lateral impacts. The "+" reflects the 2026 edition's added testing for chin strap retention, roll-off, and off-center force transmission. Independent third-party labs tested the helmet for penetration, environmental resistance, and high-velocity impact, and the design was refined through field testing with working crews.
A universal design provides a secure, comfortable fit and keeps the helmet stable during complex maneuvers, particularly for work at heights.
