ELGD Axes Family for Cleanroom and High-Load Handling
Machine builders handling sensitive workpieces in cleanroom or harsh-environment settings often face a tradeoff between load capacity and contamination control, particularly when cantilevered attachments and long stroke lengths are involved. Festo's ELGD axes family is a line of rodless electric linear axes available in two drive types—the ELGD-BS recirculating ball screw spindle and the ELGD-TB toothed belt—each offered in standard and wide-body (WD) configurations.
Both variants support Y-axis attachments up to 44 lb (20 kg). The ELGD-BS spindle delivers a maximum stroke of 8 ft (2.5 m); the ELGD-TB toothed belt reaches up to 28 ft (8.5 m).
Motor position on the spindle variants is configurable as axial or parallel; on the toothed belt variants, motor position at the end of the axis is freely selectable and retrofittable. The wide-body WD versions reduce profile height for more compact installation footprints.
A permanently magnetic stainless steel cover strip protects the internal double-sided recirculating ball bearing guide, preventing particle generation without abrasive contact—supporting cleanroom compatibility as well as use in harsh operating environments. The ELGD family is compatible with the Festo CMMT servo drive controller family, enabling predictive maintenance through the Motion Insights Electric app.
