Gear Head Engine Lathes Offer 2 in. Spindle Bore
Shops running bar work on older belt-driven lathes often hit the same wall: limited through-spindle capacity, no digital feedback, and electrical systems that don't meet current compliance requirements. Baileigh Industrial's PL-1340E-1 and PL-1440E-1 are gear head engine lathes with a 2 in. spindle bore, standard 2-axis SINO digital readout, and CSA/UL-certified electrical systems.
Both models share a geared-head drive that transfers torque directly without belt slippage, precision-ground and hardened bed ways, and a D1-5 spindle nose for secure, repeatable chuck mounting. The 13 x 40 in PL-1340E-1 is powered by a 2 hp, 220V single-phase motor with 8 spindle speeds from 70 to 2,000 rpm and a swing over gap of 16.9 in (429 mm).
The 14 x 40 in PL-1440E-1 uses a 3 hp, 220V single-phase motor with 8 speeds from 90 to 1,800 rpm and a swing over gap of 19.7 in (500 mm). Both cut metric and inch threads.
Each lathe ships with a 2-axis SINO DRO pre-installed for real-time X and Y axis positioning. A standard safety package includes a foot brake, chuck guard with automatic safety switch, lead screw cover, full-length splash guard, and integrated chip tray. The coolant system is built in. Both models are CSA/UL certified to UL 987. No assembly is required.
