Walter's TC180 Supreme and TC280 Supreme solid carbide taps are designed for large batch sizes and mass production applications, including automotive. Both are manufactured from grade WJ30EL, which features an ultra-fine, highly wear-resistant solid carbide substrate and a HiPIMS-applied (high-power impulse magnetron sputtering) coating for effective chip formation and extended tool life. Both taps are produced with a 6HX tolerance—slightly larger than a standard 6H tap but within standard tolerances—for extended tool life and compatibility with high-strength or abrasive materials such as cast iron.

The TC180 Supreme produces blind-hole threads up to 2 × DN in steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals (ISO P, K, and N material groups). Its geometry incorporates varying helix angles to generate short chips and support process reliability, while a short-chamfered guide section helps prevent fractures.

Available in metric dimensions from M6 to M12, it includes an h6 shank tolerance and an axial internal coolant channel for chip removal. The TC180 features chamfer form C as defined in DIN 2197.

The TC280 Supreme handles through-hole threading up to 2 × DN in steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals (ISO P, K, and N material groups), including at high cutting speeds.

Metric dimensions range from M6 to M12; metric fine dimensions include M14×1.5 and M16×1.5. The TC280 features chamfer form B as defined in DIN 2197.
