RELED & RNLED Series LED Luminaires Rated for Hazardous Locations

Appleton's RELED and RNLED Series offer three platform geometries, four color temperatures, and optional emergency battery backup.

The RELED and RNLED Series are recessed and surface-mount LED luminaires engineered as energy-efficient replacements for Appleton RE Series fluorescent fixtures.

Certified to ATEX and IECEx hazardous location standards, both series deliver comparable light distribution to the fluorescent fixtures they replace while providing solid-state LED technology for longer service life, instant-on directional illumination, and reduced energy and maintenance costs.

Available in three platform geometries—2 ft (0.6 m) linear, 4 ft (1.2 m) linear, and 2 x 2 ft (0.6 x 0.6 m) square—the luminaires cover a broad range of ceiling configurations with lumen outputs from 1,508 to 7,789 lm and four color temperature options: 5000K, 4000K, 3000K, and 2200K.

The RELED and RNLED Series are physically identical in form and function, differentiated by hazardous area certification scope.

RELED luminaires are dual-certified for Gas Groups in ATEX/IECEx Zone 1 and Zone 2, and Dust Groups in Zone 21 and Zone 22. RNLED luminaires are certified for Zone 2, Zone 21, and Zone 22 applications.

IP66-rated, gasketed enclosures are available in 304 stainless steel, 316L stainless steel, or painted 304 stainless steel to address specific corrosion resistance needs in chemical, marine, offshore, and washdown environments. The housing is rated to 20 Joules (IK10) and includes a wire guard fitted on a tempered glass cover for mechanical impact protection. Thermal management maintains safe junction temperatures across the full operating range, contributing to a calculated lumen maintenance life of L70 > 150,000 h at +131°F (+55°C).

Both series can be ordered with 1.5 or 3 h emergency battery backup, featuring automated self-tests every 14 days and an annual full test. Continuous 0 to 10V dimming supports integration with Appleton Group Lighting Controls infrastructure.

Universal drivers accept 100 to 277V AC (50/60 Hz) and 125 to 300V DC, eliminating voltage-specific SKU selection across multi-region projects. Power factor exceeds 0.95, and standard 6 kV surge suppression protects against transient overvoltage. The field-replaceable LED driver module can be swapped on-site to reduce mean time to repair in hazardous area environments.

Suitable environments include offshore rigs, chemical and petrochemical plants, paint booths, washdown areas in food, beverage, and pharmaceutical production, marine terminals, and advanced manufacturing facilities.
