VuePod Bin-Picking Cell Ships Fully Assembled
Automated bin picking has traditionally required a dedicated engineering team, custom design work, and machine vision expertise that most integrators don't have in-house—a combination that has kept integration timelines stretching into months. Apera AI's VuePod is a self-contained, self-configuring bin-picking cell that plans the entire job on its own, handling picking strategy, part reorientation, and path planning without additional engineering input.
The system ships fully assembled, running its Vue software, built on 4D Vision, on purpose-built hardware. 4D Vision closes the feedback loop on robot control, and system performance is demonstrated prior to shipment, which reduces on-site setup to three steps: connecting power, Ethernet, and upstream and downstream PLC signals; running an end-to-end self-calibration at the press of a button; and teaching part placement by positioning a part in the fixture so the system can find the placement pose. No robot programming, gripper tuning, or pick-point teaching is required for random or structured bins.
The launch model supports small-to-medium ferrous metal parts, including those common in automotive body shops, using a magnetic gripper that covers the full range of supported part profiles. Support for a wider range of parts, through additional gripper and actuation configurations, is planned for future releases.
