EMH Crane Breaks Ground on 24,000-Sq-Ft Ohio Expansion
EMH Crane has broken ground on a 24,000 sq ft (2,229 sq m) manufacturing expansion at its world headquarters in Valley City, Ohio—the fourth addition to the facility since it was established. The $2 million project is expected to be complete by the end of 2026.
The expansion will let the company build multiple crane systems simultaneously rather than in sequence. "Right now, we have the capacity to build 2 or 3 cranes that are up to 80, 90, or 120 ft (24.4, 27.4, or 36.6 m) long at one time," said David Comiono, vice president and co-owner. "With this new expansion, we will have the capacity to build 4, 5, or even 6 cranes at the same time."
Alongside the added floor space, EMH plans to bring in a new multihead sandblaster to sandblast complex shapes at twice the current speed, as well as a new gantry seam welder for welding larger seams on box girders.
EMH partnered with Campbell Construction, a Wadsworth and Wooster, Ohio-based design-build general contractor, on the project, which also drew assistance and reinvestment-area incentives from the Medina County Economic Development Corporation.
EMH, or Engineered Material Handling, designs, sells, and manufactures overhead material handling equipment for loads from 25 lb (11 kg) to 300 tons (272 t), including bridge cranes, gantry cranes, jib cranes, freestanding cranes, workstation cranes, crane kits, and custom and standard wire rope hoists and end trucks. The company is ISO 9001:2015 certified.
