Work-in-Process Cart

Nov. 9, 2018
Built for an elevator manufacturer, a work-in-process (WIP) cart holds small batches of both large and small sheet metal parts as they go through various stages of manufacturing on their way to final assembly.

The unique cart features 12 compartments that assist in damage-free handling with easy load/unload. Three of the compartments are especially tall to hold the largest components, while the other nine are built shorter to hold a variety of part sizes. Each compartment features a robust plastic floor and sturdy panels for part separation and to ensure minimal movement of the parts. The various cart levels can be easily repositioned and reconfigured depending on the application with only simple tools.

The cart features four, 4 in. dia. swivel casters with urethane wheels for easy, stable and safe movement. Two of the casters have brakes that can be engaged when secured positioning is needed. The size and strength of the wheels lend themselves for easy movement of the cart from point to point in the manufacturing process. With a push/pull handle at both ends, the cart, is easy for an associate to reposition within his work area for ideal and convenient load/unload.

The cart shown measures 35 L x 22 D x 56 in. T and is designed to hold up to 400 lb. Higher capacity and custom cart sizes are possible with Creform. As are a variety of colors for visual identification by department, product line, shift and associate to name a few. They can be configured for ESD (anti-static) applications as well.

Further, options can include feet, rather than wheels for stationary operations, label holders to identify positions, hooks, clipboards and the cart can be outfitted with a hitch for towing by a Creform AGV Tugger unit to make the cart part of an AGV-supported kiting system. Creform carts are available as an assembled structure or kit with pre-cut pipes for quick, on-site assembly and complete DIY solution.
