The Forging Industry Association has two CDs available to members and non-members: the 2007 FIA Custom Forging Capability Guide (FCG), and a CD compilation of the Forging Solutions technical newsletter.

Th FCG is availalable at no charge to buyers, engineers, material specifiers, or anyone interested in locating a forging producer in North America. Like its printed predecessor, it contains location and facilities listings of all FIA Member custom forge shops, forging market and process descriptions, and graphics. A "Special Capabilities" column defines the capabilities of each forging company further, making it easier for customers to select prospective sources.

The primary purpose of this guide is to promote the capabilities of FIA members and the forging process to forging customers and prospects. Over 1,000 were distributed in 2006. The plan is to distribute updated copies, by request, throughout the customer purchasing and design engineering community in 2007 via design engineering and customer-oriented trade publications; customer lists compiled by FIA; the FIA website; trade shows; requests to FIA office; and engineering students at targeted universities

A fully searchable and constantly updated version of the guide also is available on the association's website. FIA officials report that this electronic version is consistently one of the most viewed sections of the FIA website, averaging about 1,000 visitors each month. FIA encourages custom forger members to advertise on this page, to reach prospective customers.

FIA is also pleased to announce that the Forging Solutions technical newsletter series (c.1987-1994), has been updated at minimal cost, and is available now on CD, and at the FIA website (see www.forging.org/engineer/ArticlesStudies.cfm). These newsletters were written originally for forging customers/prospects, to stress the many benefits of the forging process. Case studies backing up editorial claims often were included. During their original run, 25 editions were produced and mailed to thousands of customer engineers, usually on a quarterly basis.

FIA began initial distribution of the CD at the automotive-oriented, "Great Designs in Steel" show, in early March. Availability of the CD also will be advertised to the 4,000 engineers and purchasing professionals comprising the FIA customer list.

Customers/prospects may receive a complimentary copy of either CD by visiting www.forging.org/cd. Complimentary copies are being distributed to FIA member company, official representatives, and sales/marketing personnel. Additional copies of the CD version are available to all members for $25.00 each, and to non-member forging and supplier companies at $100.00 each. Contact FIA at 216-7816260, or [email protected].
