American Axle & Manufacturing is supplying electric-drive technology for the Baojun E300 Plus, an all-electric compact vehicle introduced recently by SAIC-GM-Wuling. The automaker is a joint venture of General Motors with two Chinese manufacturers (SAIC Motor and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co Ltd.), and based at Liuzhou in southwestern China.
The four-seat E300 Plus is powered by a 40-kW electric drive unit manufactured at American Axle's joint-venture Liuzhou AAM Automotive Driveline System Co. Ltd., in China's Guangxi Province. In addition to electric drive units, Liuzhou AAM manufactures independent rear axles and driveheads for multi-purpose vehicles and crossovers, including vans, minivans, and SUVs.
“This is AAM’s third electric drive program, our first in China, and our first on a compact, value-brand small passenger car,” stated chairman and CEO David C. Dauch. “We will continue to see global electric vehicle demand and will support this growth with our compact, quiet, and efficient drive technology.”
Detroit-based AAM offers a portfolio of electric propulsion technologies for hybrid and battery-electric vehicles, from small passenger cars to crossovers.
