    Forging a Hammer Head on a Fly Press

    Two forgers in North Yorkshire, England, use a Norton No. 6 deep-throat fly press to forge a turning hammer head in 1.75-in. tool steel. The head started as a 1,000 gram lump hammer, and a few heats later it was a very nice turning hammer. The press has an extra long swing arm, and two paint cans each filled with 10 kilos of lead functioning as weights. "This probably gives it a little more than 6 tons of pressure," the source observed.
