Also, company install s new production, inspection systems

Trenton Forging Co. reports it has been certified to the new automotive industry quality standard, ISO/TS 16949:2002.

The Detroit company produces custom impression-die forgings for a variety of industries, including automotive, truck, construction, and mining, among others.

TS 16949 certification is a new technical specification that aligns existing automotive quality systems standards within the global automotive industry. Of note, Trenton Forging claims to have been the first forging company to achieve the former quality certification, QS-9000, in 1996.

Also, Trenton announced it has installed a series of new production systems, including:
- Four new 1,000-ton hydraulic coining presses for close-tolerance coining.
- A high-production magnetic-particle inspection system for automated crack detection.
- Additional CNC die-room equipment to supplement the plant’s 18,000-rpm high-speed machining centers for tooling production, including a 13,000-rpm machining center, 10,000 rpm machining center, and wire EDM.

Each system has engineering and design features that benefit the forging operation by providing the latest in programmable and tolerance controls, the company says.
