November 27, 2006 — SMS A.G. has announced that its SMS Meer and SMS Eumoco divisions will be merged into a single corporate unit as of January 1. The organization indicates it expects that by merging the machine engineering functions, “synergies in the administrative and central functions will enhance in particular flexibility and competitiveness.”
SMS Meer will be the surviving brand within the organization. SMS Eumuco's products and services for closed-die forging, extrusion, ring rolling, and closed-die rolling, as well as its brands — Eumuco, Hasenclever, Schloemann, and Wagner Banning — will continue unchanged.
All of Eumoco's operations in Leverkusen, Germany, will be closed by the end of 2007. All those functions will be relocated to the SMS Meer headquarters in Mnchengladbach. A new, “heavy duty” workshop and a new logistics center will be built there, along with the necessary new office space.
Euomoc's Wagner Banning ring rolling product line will continue at its operation in Witten, Germany.
Looking forward, SMS Meer will have competency in pipe and tube plants, hydraulic presses, copper and aluminum plants, long-product rolling, closed-die forging, and ring rolling.
