The Stanley Works on Thursday announced the appointment of John F. Lundgren as chairman and chief executive of the tool manufacturer. The former Georgia-Pacific Corp. executive is set to begin March 1.
Lundgren, 52, heads the European consumer products business of Atlanta-based Georgia-Pacific, which manufactures and distributes paper, packaging and building products.
John M. Trani retired as New Britain, Conn.-based Stanley's chairman and CEO Dec. 31. He was succeeded by interim chairman John D. Opie.
Lundgren "has the experience and the ideal background to lead Stanley through the growth phase of its corporate development," Opie said in a statement. He said Lundgren's "strong marketing, strategic planning and portfolio realignment skills" match Stanley's growth objectives.
Lundgren said the company's tools and security businesses are a "great base upon which the company's growth phase can be built."
