Truck Makers Opting for Aluminum Wheels

Alcoa inks supply deals with Mack, Volvo

November 2, 2006 — Alcoa''s aluminum wheels will be the primary choice of Mack Trucks Inc. for its North American vehicles, following a recent contract extension. Alcoa Wheel Products,Cleveland and six other global locations, produces cast and forged aluminum wheels for heavy-truck, automotive, and motorcycle manufacturers. The company claims to have invented the forged aluminum wheel in 1948, and Mack was among the first vehicle builders to adopt the development.

Tim Myers, Alcoa Wheel Products v.p. and general manager for Commercial Vehicle Wheels, stated: “The Mack and Alcoa brands are synonymous with strength and durability which has also come to define this relationship."

In addition, Alcoa announced it is now the standard supplier of forged aluminum truck wheels for Volvo Trucks North America. "We are extremely pleased that our position with Volvo has developed to the point that we are now their standard aluminum wheel supplier and we look forward to our ongoing business relationship," Meyers said.
