Bharat Forge’s Kalyani is Business India’s Businessman of the Year
In its Silver Jubilee year, Business India has conferred its Businessman of the Year award for 2006 on Baba Kalyani, chairman and managing director of Bharat Forge Ltd., of Puni, India.
Kalyani was selected for this distinction by a panel of eminent businessmen meeing in Mumbai.
An MIT-trained engineer, Baba Kalyani, is the second generation head of the Rs 6,500 crore Kalyani group founded by his father Neelkanth Kalyani in Pune.
The younger Kalyani is credited with the transformation of group flagship Bharat Forge into the second largest forging company in the world, after Germany’s Thyssen Krupp. The company is aiming to occupy the number one slot by 2008.
Today, Bharat Forge has manufacturing operations at nine locations in six countries: two in India, three in Germany and one each in Sweden, Scotland, U.S., and China. Its customers include Daimler Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Toyota, and Volkswagen.
