Virginia Forge to Expand

Oct. 6, 2005
Phase one to add 6 new jobs.

Virginia Forge Co., one of the three businesses of the MFC Group based in Meadville, PA, has announced that it will undertake an $18.25 million expansion of its operations in Botetourt County, VA.

Phase 1 of the expansion will begin immediately and will result in a $12.25 million investment and 6 new jobs, bringing total employment to 65. As a result of this expansion, forging capacity will double.

Phase 2 of the expansion, timing to be determined, will add $6 million in new equipment, 15 additional jobs, and new manufacturing processes.

Virginia Forge began operations in Botetourt County in 1997. Officials claim it is the most efficient, technologically advanced forging facility in the United States. Forgings are produced on a 2,500-ton vertical press system with automatic workpiece transfer. Machining is accomplished in a fully automated DNC-controlled machining center. The company also has in-house, high-capacity heat treating with quench and tempering capabilities.

The company makes a variety of steel forgings used in the wheel structure of vehicles. Its specialty is wheel bearing outer races.
