Metaldyne Earns Complex Production/Assembly Order from Ford

June 26, 2005
Involves design, forging, diecasting, machining for clutch modules

Metaldyne reports it has earned a supply contract from Ford Motor Co. to supply two transmission clutch modules for the automaker’s new six-speed automatic transmission. The Plymouth, MI-based designer/supplier of automotive components and assemblies will supply the overdrive and center-support modules for the new transmission, which will be part a variety of rear-wheel drive passenger car, light truck and SUV applications.

Metaldyne emphasized that its range of design and production expertise will be employed to complete the orders. Specifically, Metaldyne will forge shafts and ring gears; diecast the center support casting; and machine, weld, and provide final assembly of both modules. Manufacturing will be completed at several of Metaldyne’s U.S. operations, and the modules will be assembled at the Bluffton, IN, operation.

"This is an example of Metaldyne moving further up the value chain in the direction of complete systems and modules," said Tim Leuliette, Metaldyne chairman, president and CEO. "This program shows Metaldyne's evolution as a complete transmission module supplier and further validates our business model."
