FIERF Awards Scholarships

Four fellowships awarded for upcoming year as well

The Forging Industry Educational and Research Foundation (FIERF) board of trustees announced that it has awarded over thirty university graduate and undergraduate scholarships and funding for fellowships for the coming year.

Fifteen students were awarded Finkl Scholarships, named in memory of industry contributor Charles W. Finkl, who served on the FIERF board of trustees, including twice as its president. Scholarships were awarded to:

  • Daniel Burnett / Ohio State University
  • Lydia Collins / Colorado School of Mines
  • Rachel Craft / Case Western Reserve University
  • Christopher Everson / Marquette University
  • Hunter Guilliams / Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
  • David Hengst / Missouri University of Science & Technology
  • Abraham Jurovitski / University of Utah
  • John Neuman / Marquette University
  • Ryan Nida / Ohio University
  • Scott Pisarik / Missouri University of Science & Technology
  • Jeremy Ruff / Ohio University
  • John Schrantz / DePaul University
  • Jacob Schriner / Bradley University
Additionally four university research projects were awarded funding for the upcoming year. They include:
  • Effect of Surface Roughness on Hot Forging Surfaces (Marquette University)
  • Advanced Tonnage Signal Analysis for Forging Process Monitoring and Quality Improvement (University of Michigan)
  • Influence of Reheating Rate and Holding Temperature on the Interaction of V, Al, and N in Air-Cooled Forging Steels (Colorado School of Mines)
  • Predicting the Depth of Decarburization in Forgings (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute).
