American Axle Makes More Management Changes

Oct. 2, 2008
New execs in place for Unibody Vehicle, Launch & Manufacturing units

American Axle & Manufacturing’s ongoing makeover of its operating management continues. The producer of driveline and drivetrain systems has named a new vice president for its Unibody Vehicle business unit. Former AA&M controller David A. Culton will take the post.

Replacing Culton as controller is Michael J. Lynch, who had been the company’s director of Commercial Analysis.

In addition, Thomas O. Delanoy was appointed executive director for Launch & Manufacturing. He had been AA&M’s executive director for Special Projects. In addition, Allan H. Rae has been named executive director, Human Resources & Business Systems. He had been executive director, Business Systems.

In addition to driveline and drivetrain systems, components, and modules, American Axle designs and manufactures chassis systems and metal-formed products for trucks, sport utility vehicles and passenger cars. Following a 10-week strike earlier this year, the company is in the process of closing two domestic manufacturing plants, and eliminating 2,000 hourly workers through buyouts. About 1,650 hourly workers will remain at three plants in Michigan and New York, with wages reduced by as much as 40%.

Also, AA&M has offered early-retirement packages to about 400 salaried workers.
