Ellwood Group to Acquire McInnes Rolled Rings

Producer of seamless carbon, alloy, and stainless rings up to 144 in. diameter will be a wholly owned subsidiary of EGI, with management remaining in place

Ellwood Group Inc. has an agreement to acquire McInnes Rolled Rings, Erie, PA, a producer of seamless carbon, alloy, and stainless-steel rolled rings. The purchase, the value of which has not been announced, is due to close on March 31. McInnes Rolled Rings will operate as an independent but wholly owned subsidiary of Ellwood, and operations will proceed "without interruption through the acquisition process and beyond," according to the buyer.

The McInnes management team, including CEO Tim Hunter, will remain.

Ellwood Group Inc. is headquartered in Ellwood City, PA, and operates a series of open-die and closed-die forging businesses in Pennsylvania and Texas. It also has a range of other businesses including steelmaking, metalcasting, cladding and fabricating, in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Ontario.

McInnes Rolled Rings produces seamless rolled rings weighing up to 10,000 lb, and ranging in size from 4 to 144 in. (100-3,660 mm), in carbon, alloy, and stainless steel grades. It was established in 1992 and produces seamless rolled rings exclusively.

The production capabilities include a Wagner 63/63 radial axial ring-rolling mill and a 1,200-ton Erie Press machine for rolled ring preforms are installed in the original, 60,000-ft2 building. Quenching and tempering capabilities were installed in 1996. In 2003, a smaller Wagner KFRW 630 ring mill was added, and in 2012 a custom-designed, 3,500-ton Erie Press Systems blanking press supplied and 160/160 SMS radial-axial ring rolling machine were added.

In 2016, an expansion to the heat-treating capabilities included furnaces designed and built by Can-Eng Furnaces Intl. Ltd., and a customized material handling system developed by Dango & Dienthal Hollerbach GmbH, to quench and temper forged rings up to 144 in. diameter.

Ellwood Group stated that buying McInness Rolled Rings fulfills its strategy "to provide world-class problem solving, quality metals, and custom-engineered components for critical applications around the world".
