The ZMZ-Zlatoust Metallurgical Plant open-die operation includes a 25-MN press, manipulators, and DanForge automation package.

In mid-February Danieli Breda commissioned a new integrated forging complex at Zlatoust Metallurgical Plant (ZMZ), Chelyabinsk, Russia, centered on a 25-MN open-die forging press. The scope of supply also included two integrated manipulators — a 20/60 railbound unit and a 20/60 mobile manipulator — as well as the DanForge® Open Automation System.

ZMZ is a steelmaker and distributor of carbon and alloy tool, stainless corrosion resistant, forged, cold-down, tube stock, hot-rolled billet, and

The Danieli Breda open-die press operates with a frequency of 80 strokes/min., with a daylight of around 3500 mm. It is supported with automatic top-die clamping and an automatic tool-changing device.

The manipulators can lift 20-ton ingots and feature a load moment of 60 t/m.

The DanForge is a process technology platform dedicated to control and automation of open-die forging plants. It is an open automation system that provides complete co-ordination between press and manipulators, allowing full integrated control for highest productivity and repeatability of forging cycles, considering the limits dictated by the type of material, working temperature, and geometrical shape of workpieces and dies.
