C.H. Hanson has picked up the assets of Brodbeck Ironworks, adding modular belt grinding systems to its lineup and putting a bladesmith-turned-engineer in charge of product development across its brands.

Naperville, Ill.-based C.H. Hanson, a 160-year-old family-owned maker of steel stamps, stencils, tags, and layout tools, announced the acquisition Aug. 4. Brodbeck Ironworks, founded in 2018 by engineer and bladesmith Ryan Brodbeck, built its name designing durable, modular grinding systems for metalworkers and bladesmiths—the kind of niche, craft-driven manufacturing that doesn't always show up on a big supplier's radar.

Brodbeck will join C.H. Hanson as senior engineer for metalworking tools, bringing 16 years of design and manufacturing experience to product development across the company's full brand family, which now includes Palmgren, Superior Tool, EasyCAM, and Brodbeck Ironworks.

Why it matters: for plant and shop operations that lean on specialty metalworking equipment, this is one more sign of consolidation among smaller American toolmakers—and a bet that keeping the founder in a hands-on engineering role, rather than folding the brand in and moving on, keeps the product roadmap credible with the customers who actually use the equipment.
