Two manufacturers, Nestlé Purina PetCare and Eastman Chemical, placed in the top 11 of Glassdoor’s recently announcedEmployees' Choice Awards for 2016 (Large Company), which gauge everything from salary to benefits to CEO approval. As the title suggests, the metrics are based off employee opinion data mined from past and present employees, taking into account career opportunities, work-life balance, management, and compensation.

Only companies with more than 1,000 employees were considered for the category and had to receive at least 75 reviews from U.S.-based employees from Nov. 3, 2014 to Nov. 1, 2015. A super-secret algorithm based off the quality, consistency and quantity of reviews decides the final list.

The top company to work for, evidently, is Airbnb. Though the name suggests it’s flying bed and breakfast, it’s actually an information technology company that helps people find ground-based accommodations. The broad range of IT companies, which also includes Apple and Google, dominated the rankings, accounting for 40% of the top 50.

The St. Louis-based Purina (#9) has made the top 10 three years in a row. Its 7,600 employees spread across 20 manufacturing plants make everything from Beggin' Strips to Friskies. the litany of brands account for 59% of global petcare sales, according to the company website.

“Purina is a great place to work for anyone in the manufacturing or engineering field," plant supervisor Dan Henry said. "We’re given the support and resources we need so that we can be innovative and pioneer cutting edge equipment and products.  One of the many reasons we’re passionate about Purina is because we’re pet owners too."

Along with letting its employees bring their pets to work, Purina says it exudes values dating back to 1894 and its founder, William H. Danforth, who believes that people have four lives to lead, which is only five less than the company's pickiest consumers.

"A man's ingredients for life," Danforth said, "are a body, a mind, a personality, and character, and all four must grow in balance with each other."

The company merged with Nestlé in 2001 and added innovation as the fifth "Tall" in 2009.

Purina is currently seeking engineers and various manufacturing team leaders, the company says, and open jobs can be found HERE. One other thing to remember: The company has a great mentoring program, if this training video is any indication:

Eastman, headquartered in Kingsport, Tenn., makes chemicals, fibers, and plastics materials. The company employs 15,000 people and was named a 2015 World’s Most Ethical Company by the Ethisphere Institute.

There were two other North American manufacturing companies in the top 50: Stryker (#43), a medical technology producer, and GE Aviation (#41). Three energy producers also placed, includingChevron (#39), which made the list for the 8th time, and two companies more green in age and approach: Vivent Solar and SolarCity.

After perusing several reviews on each site, it's apparent each company offers good to great benefits. GE Aviation offers progressive benefits like six weeks of paid paternity leave, and Chevron has “excellent [401K] co-match, perhaps the best in the world” one employee wrote. It matches up to 8%.

Every company can boast about benefits and work-life balance, but the best way to see how a company truly values its employees is salary. Below is a snapshot of annual salary compensation for each company. Click on the company name to go to each company's Glassdoor Salary profile:
