EMCO's MEGAMILL is a large-format gantry milling machine that handles exceptionally large components while maintaining precision, rigidity, and automation compatibility. The platform offers customizable configurations for aerospace and other heavy machining applications.

The machine provides axis strokes of 139 ft (42,500 mm) in X; 26 ft (8,000 mm) in Y, per slide carriage; and 8 ft (2,500 mm) in Z, per slide. The machine is engineered for stable machining of large parts without sacrificing accuracy during extended operations.

Control is managed through Siemens Sinumerik ONE CNC, supporting integrated factory communication. Optional Siemens Integrate Access My Machine OPC/UA connectivity enables automated linking to plant logistics systems for real-time process monitoring. Siemens Omative adaptive control software dynamically adjusts machining parameters to reduce cycle time and manage tool wear.

The machine supports multiple milling head configurations, including universal bi-rotary heads with millesimal positioning, 38 kW power, 6,000 rpm speed, 1,000 N·m torque, and ISO 50 tool connection. A vertical offset spindle head delivers 38 kW power, 3,000 rpm, 2,000 N·m torque, and ISO 50 tooling. Torque motor milling heads with air/oil lubrication reach 24,000 rpm, providing high-speed machining through HSK 63-A coupling.

Tool management is handled by two automatic 48-position tool changers using overlapping 24-position chain magazines with translational stroke motion. Tool attachment options include 28x ISO 50 and 20x HSK 63-A interfaces. Additional head storage is provided through sliding 3-position and 2-position milling head magazines.

Integrated quality assurance includes laser systems for tool length and diameter measurement, radio probes for tool and workpiece inspection, and anti-collision protection between crossbars. Guide pressurization systems help maintain cleanliness and protect machine components during operation.

Cooling is supplied by dual-delivery systems. Spindle-side delivery operates at 6 bar pressure with 28 L/min flow, while internal spindle delivery operates at 40 bar pressure with 20 L/min flow for tools with central coolant channels (DIN 69871/A compatible tooling).

The machine includes two 2,000 L filter tanks and two 2,000 L collection tanks. Dust and composite material extraction is supported through spindle nose extraction points delivering 1,500 m³/h airflow with 5,500 Pa pressure and 5.5 kW power, along with side work surface extraction ranging from 8,000 to 12,000 m³/h and 370 mm H₂O suction capacity using 15 kW power.
