G8 Portable Gas Detector & Communications Safety Wearable
Blackline Safety's G8 connected safety wearable combines gas detection, lone worker protection, and two-way communication in a single intrinsically safe device. Designed as a platform-based system, the wearable connects workers to safety teams and cloud-based software, continuously streaming real-time field data.
G8 functions as a connected gas detector with swappable cartridges that detect more than 20 gases. The device carries an IP67 rating for use in demanding industrial environments and consolidates multiple safety tools into one unit, reducing the need for workers to carry separate devices.
Lone worker protection features monitor falls, lack of motion, health-related events, physical assaults, and situations where workers become trapped or stranded. Dual-band GNSS/GPS using L1 and L5 signals provides location accuracy within 3.3 ft (1 m), supporting faster location fixes in environments where standard GPS performance may be limited. The device also supports geofencing through ZoneAware functionality within Blackline Live, allowing defined site zones and visibility into worker locations.
G8 supports multiple communication methods, including push-to-talk radio functionality, emergency voice calling to live monitoring agents, and text messaging for individual or mass notifications. An internal full-range speaker delivers up to 1 W of audio output, with an optional remote speaker microphone supporting up to 1.5 W for extended sound output.
The wearable includes a 64-color backlit display approximately twice the size of the G7 display, using a reflective active-matrix TFT LCD with nearly 77,000 pixels for visibility of alerts and device status. NFC-based TagAssign allows device assignment with a single tap, and an integrated 35 lm flashlight provides illumination in low-light or confined spaces.
All G8 devices stream live data to the Blackline Live cloud platform, providing real-time visibility into gas readings, worker status, and site conditions. The platform architecture is designed to support integration with other digital worksite systems and receive automatic firmware updates that expand functionality over time.
