The Kollmorgen Essentials motion system is a pre-configured servo motion solution that simplifies high-performance motion control for a wide range of industrial axes. Each system includes a matched servo drive, servo motor with integrated multiturn absolute feedback, and a combined power/data cable, providing reliable and flexible motion for applications such as packaging, warehouse automation, material handling, and forming.

The servo drive supports multiple communication protocols, including EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET, allowing integration with common controller environments. Multiaxis synchronization is available through CIP Sync, PROFINET IRT, or EtherCAT, enabling precise control of multiaxis systems. Integrated dual-channel STO, SIL2/Cat 3 PLd, ensures functional safety.

Drive setup and commissioning are simplified with Express Setup in Kollmorgen WorkBench software, which includes graphical configuration tools for basic users and advanced tuning options for experienced engineers. Drives are available for supply voltages of 120 to 240 or 240 to 480V AC and deliver continuous power up to 4,000 W at 3, 6, or 12 A.

Servo motors are rated for 120, 240, 400, or 480V AC and power levels from 200 to 4,000 W, with a rated speed of 3,000 rpm and peak speeds up to 6,000 rpm. An optional 24V DC brake is available. Standardized mounting and an adaptable shaft key kit support flexible integration across different machine designs.

Each motor features the SFD-M multiturn absolute encoder, offering 24-bit single-turn and 16-bit multiturn resolution. The encoder uses power-harvesting technology to retain position data without batteries, maintaining absolute positioning even during power loss.

The single-cable design combines power and data to reduce installation time and potential connection errors. Standard cable lengths up to 82 ft (25 m) are available, along with optional regen resistors, line filters, and spare connectors. The system also supports DC bus-sharing to balance energy between drives and improve control performance.
