.38 Finishing Face Mill System Offers Adjustable Precision
The .38 Finishing Face Mill system is a line of cutters for high-precision surface finishing. The system includes three variants—fixed pocket, hybrid, and adjustable—designed to balance control, flexibility, and ease of use across different finishing requirements.
Two insert types are available: one with an 88-deg. lead angle for near-wall machining and another with a 27-deg. lead angle for high-feed, open-surface applications. This range allows operators to address varied surface finishing challenges with a single system.
The Fixed Pocket Cutter (R220.38-….-SN-..SA) is intended for simple, setup-free operation. Its tilted screw design allows for automatic insert self-centering and run-out accuracy of 0.00016 to 0.00059 in (4 to 15 µm).
The Hybrid Cutter (R220.38-….-SN-..CSA) combines fixed and adjustable cassette pockets, functioning as a fixed pocket tool by default. Its cassette inserts act as dedicated wiper inserts to improve surface finish. Adjustment is possible but not required, providing flexibility while minimizing complexity.
The Adjustable Cutter (R220.38-….-SN-..HSA) offers fine-tuning control with run-out as low as 0 to 0.00008 in (0 to 2 µm), making it suited for applications requiring maximum surface quality.
