6780-000 Series Ethernet Connectors Enable Power and Data Over Single Pair
The 6780-000 Series line of IP20 T1 Industrial Single-Pair Ethernet (SPE) connectors and cable assemblies transmit Ethernet over a single pair of twisted copper wires. These connectors also deliver power to terminal devices using Power over Data Line (PoDL) technology, eliminating the need for additional wiring.
The 6780-000 Series reduces system complexity and cost by eliminating gateways, analog interfaces, and field-level bus systems. Compared to RJ45 connectors, which require two wire pairs for 100 Mb/s and four for 1 Gb/s, this series offers up to 45% board space savings. It supports data transmission rates of 1 Gb/s up to 131 ft (40 m) and 10 Mb/s up to 3,281 ft (1,000 m). The series is built to IEC 63171-6 and IEEE 802.3 standards and supports high-reliability communication in industrial applications like automation, smart grids, sensor and actuator networks, traffic control, and IIoT systems.
Connectors in this series feature surface-mount solder tails that improve data signal performance, IP20 ratings, and RoHS compliance. Cable assemblies are available in four standard 22AWG lengths: 3.3, 9.8, 16.4, and 32.8 ft (1, 3, 5, and 10 m). Custom lengths are also available. The plugs use cold-welded insulation displacement contact (IDC) technology for reliable, automated assembly.
The 6780-000 Series is rated for 4A at 140°F (60°C), supports 60V DC operation, and offers contact-to-contact and contact-to-shield proof voltages of 1,000 and 2,250V DC, respectively. The connectors have a maximum mating force of 20 N, a minimum polarization and pull-out force of 50 N, and a 1,000-cycle durability rating. Operating temperature ranges from -40 to 185°F (-40 to 85°C).
