211R HC Robotic Labeling Cell Offers Compact, High-Speed Performance

July 18, 2025
Herma's 211 HC RC labeling cell automates labeling of syringes, pens, and vials using robotic handling with error-reducing inspection.

Herma's 211 HC RC robotic labeling cell is a robotics-assisted labeling cell for wrap-around labeling of unstable or irregularly shaped pharmaceutical products such as syringes, pens, carpules, and vials. Designed for small-batch production, the system performs up to 20 labeling and inspection operations per minute—about 25% faster than comparable semi-automatic machines—within a footprint of less than 3 square meters.

A SCARA robot with a 25.6 in (650 mm) reach and integrated cabling transports products through the labeling process. A hygienically designed 45 cm3 servo gripper removes products from loading trays and places them into the labeling station, then passes labeled products under inspection systems to verify the presence of the required label and data. Confirmed items are returned to trays or cartons, while rejected ones are sorted separately.

An intuitive drawer system allows operators to feed and remove products without opening the safety cover, enhancing both safety and efficiency. The system integrates directly with the HMI via GRIPLINK, allowing all gripping parameters to be configured and controlled in one interface.

The labeling cell supports multiple configurations, making it adaptable to various label types and data printing needs. Optional modules include hot-foil, thermal-transfer, and laser printers for barcodes, serial numbers, expiration dates, and other variable data. The fully automated operation eliminates manual handling, reduces labeling errors, and ensures compliance with labeling regulations and cleanliness standards, including ISO class 5 and EC-GMP cleanliness class A.
