A cantilevered-designed cart is being used by the body shop of an automotive manufacturer, both in the manufacturing process and in the Quality Control Department. The cart features two sets of cantilevered arms for parts storage, transport, and presentation.

The cart pictured features arms that can be used as “shelves” for ergonomic presentation and to support long parts and parts that feature large internal openings. In this case, both right and left-handed stamped metal parts. The arms of the cart are designed to extend in order to secure transport of the part while eliminating the need for ancillary packaging.

Each of the cart’s two storage locations can be repositioned and the unit’s open design lets the associate see through the structure for safe operation. The open design also makes parts visible, assisting in visual inventory management. The entire cart can be customized with only simple tools.

The cart is used to deliver a kit of different parts or as in the case of the example shown, a small batch of parts for the quality control department to check. The unit features a heavy-duty hitch for towing by manual tugger or AGV and the wide span is reinforced with central support and casters to create a cart that is both durable and rigid.

Constructed with Creform’s heavy-duty 42 mm pipe for high capacity. The cart features four, 5 in. diameter swivel casters with urethane wheels for easy positioning, stability, and safe movement. The wheels lend themselves to easily move the structure from the production floor to the quality control department. Two casters are fixed for easy maneuvering while the other two are swivel casters, while additional bracing ensures rigidity and durability. The cart has overall dimensions of 50 W x 50 D x 54 in. T and is designed to hold up to 500 lb.

As with all Creform carts, higher capacity and custom cart sizes and configurations are possible with the Creform system of 28, 32 , and 42 mm plastic coated steel pipes and metal joints. They can be configured for ESD (anti-static) applications.

Although the cart pictured is shown in marine blue, a wide variety of pipe color options are available and upgrade hitches are available for AGV delivery. Accessories include hooks, label holders for shelf levels or even shelf positions, writing surfaces with clipboards to name a few. Creform carts are available as a kit, assembled structure or in component form for a complete DIY solution.

The Creform System is used to create an array of material handling and efficiency-enhancing devices and is a proven component in continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing programs. The company partners with customers in developing and implementing these programs.
