NKK Switches, an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of electromechanical switches, announces the BB series of logic-level, subminiature, antistatic pushbutton switches. The new BB series is constructed to permit automated processing and high-density mounting. These pushbuttons are specifically designed for logic-level applications such as communication systems, telecom, hand-held instruments, control panels and much more. The BB series incorporates NKK’s award winning sliding twin crossbar contact mechanism, which ensures unparalleled switching reliability and smoother positive detent action. BB pushbuttons feature a unique antistatic superstructure that consists of a carbon-impregnated bushing. The bushing is 6mm in diameter, which simplifies panel layout. When configured with a support bracket, the bushing prevents antistatic discharge to the contacts. Static electricity from the operator’s touch travels from the actuator through the bushing and bracket to the PC board. BB pushbuttons are available in both single and double pole and momentary and maintained actions. The maintained action versions are the smallest in the world and have a latch down feature that provides visible, audible and tactile feedback. The body of the BB series including the bushing is a mere .516” (13.1mm) in height. The terminals are .100” X .100” spacing and conform to standard PC board grids for easier board layout. Engineers can specify from several different mounting options that include straight PC in bracketed and unbracketed models, vertical and right angle PC mounts. NKK’s BB series boasts a totally sealed body construction that prevents contact contamination and allows time and money saving soldering and cleaning. Ultrasonically welded terminals lock out flux and other contaminants. The case housing is constructed of glass-fiber reinforced polyamide. The BB series pushbuttons are rated 0.4VA maximum @ 28V AC/DC maximum. The mechanical and electrical life ratings are 50,000 operations minimum for momentary circuits and 25,000 operations minimum for maintained circuits. These devices can be ordered in UL94V-0 material and are RoHS compliant. Optional accessories include snap on caps in two different sizes and available in various colors.
