Dr. Alex Holland
Dr Alex Holland is a Research Director at IDTechEx. He is focused on the areas of battery and energy storage technologies and markets. Before joining IDTechEx in 2019, Alex completed his Ph.D. in electrochemical engineering from the University of Southampton and worked as an analyst at a renewable energy supplier.
At IDTechEx, Alex has developed and contributed to research in the areas of Li-ion batteries, future battery & energy storage technologies, electric vehicles, energy storage markets, green hydrogen, and material demand outlooks. His activities at IDTechEx have included technology and player appraisals and benchmarking, supply chain analysis, techno-economic analysis, and developing market forecasts.
He worked as part of an EU H2020 consortium with his thesis focussing on the development of a high-rate, environmentally benign battery chemistry. During his time as a Ph.D. researcher, Alex authored four published articles and co-authored several more. He also collaborated on projects with a variety of topics, including redox flow batteries, the use of UPS for demand-side management, and environmental analysis of emerging battery chemistries. He obtained a first-class Master's in Physics from the University of Southampton and spent a summer at the National Physical Laboratory studying the electrical properties of graphene for use as an environmental sensor.
