300 Watt High, Torque Brushless Motor Provides high torque without a gearhead

Jan. 5, 2006

Burlingame, CA—The new Maxon “EC 45 4-pole” delivers the performance and lifetime of a brushless motor. A powerful 4-pole neodymium magnet provides high torque without a gearhead. The motors are electronically commutated, thus enabling extremely long motor life, since there are simply no mechanical brushes to wear out. By assembling the motor such that the coils are outside the rotor, good heat dissipation and high overload capability is attained. A high resolution encoder that includes commutation signals is included.

The motor has a square cross section of 45 mm (1.7 in) while the length is 155 mm (6.1 in), and weighs in at 1130 g (2.5 lbs). Continuous output power is 300 watts, and maximum speed is 10,000 RPM. Using a 4-pole rotor allows for an impressive maximum continuous torque of 515 mNm (73 oz-in). Ambient temperature range is -20O to 100O C (-4O to 212O F). Utilizing high-energy neodymium magnets results in an extremely responsive mechanical time constant of <2 ms, while minimizing overall size. Complementary control electronics are also available.

Due to their high torque capability and long lifetime, the EC 45 4-pole motors are well suited for a variety of applications including industrial automation, robotics, pick and place machines, and positioning applications.

Maxon designs, manufactures, and markets fractional horsepower moving coil DC motors & brushless motors ranging in size from 6 to 90 mm (0.2 to 3.5 in) and from 0.03 to 500 watts. We also have an extensive selection of gearheads, encoders, and control electronics to complement our motors.
