Full Profile Insertion Flow Meter

The new Model 394L FPI Mag flow meter provides bi-directional measurement, which is important in many municipal water treatment, distribution and storage applications.  The most common applications include: storage tanks, water selling or sharing, multiple water sources and ring main distribution systems. In addition to locations where water is known to flow in both directions, the new Model 394L FPI Mag flow meter helps users with complex, problematic piping configurations.  Valuable flow data can now be gathered where measurement was previously cost prohibitive, such as areas affected by multiple expansions and retrofits or locations where two or more pipes converge and are consolidated into a single line.

With a compact design and easy hot tap installation, the Model 394L FPI Mag flow meter is a perfect fit for challenging applications with large or irregular piping.  The FPI Mag flow meter comes standard with an L-Series converter that is calibrated to provide precise real time indication of flow and the totalized flow volume in both forward and reverse directions.

The Model 394L FPI Mag flow meter is the industry’s only multi-electrode, hot tap, full profile insertion flow meter that delivers a continuous total flow profile similar to a full-bore mag meter.   It delivers unique advantages in terms of performance, ease of installation, maintenance and value. Featuring an enhanced design with additional sensing electrodes for increased sensitivity, the Model 394L FPI Mag flow meter is packaged in a heavy-duty 316 stainless steel sensor body for maximum structural integrity. The sensor is coated with a NSF certified 3M fusion-bonded epoxy coating for operational longevity. The Model 394L FPI Mag flow meter offers a multi-electrode sensor design, which places multiple electrodes across the entire sensor body. This design compensates for variable flow profiles, including swirl, turbulence, and low-flow conditions by reporting the average flow rate over the full diameter of the pipe.   With no moving parts and a single-piece design, the FPI Mag flow meter contains nothing to wear or break, and it is generally immune to clogging by sand, grit or other debris.

The Model 394L FPI Mag flow meter features hot tap installation, addressing the ever increasing need for municipalities to provide uninterrupted service while improving process control and ensuring delivery accountability.  It installs without de-watering lines, cutting pipe or welding flanges which reduces installed costs in medium and large line sizes by eliminating the need for heavy equipment and extensive manpower.

The FPI Mag flow meter features a compact insertion design that will easily fit into confined spaces with limited access. This design makes it possible to remove the flow meter in pipes under pressure for inspection, cleaning, and calibration or verification. Due to the flexibility the FPI Mag flow meter provides, it is often used for retrofit applications or in sites never metered before.   The FPI Mag Flow Meter is available for line sizes from 4 to 138 inches and rivals the performance of a full bore electromagnetic flow meter. With precise measurement, the FPI Mag flow meter features accuracy of ±1% of reading ± 0.03 ft/s zero stability from 0.3 to 20 ft/s velocity range in both forward and reverse directions.  The flow sensor comes pre-calibrated from McCrometer’s NIST traceable Calibration Lab and requires no recalibration in the field.
