Cambridge Vacuum Engineering's new technology offers the possibility of eliminating the need for a vacuum chamber.

A new welding technology, EBFLOW, offers the possibility of eliminating the need for a vacuum chamber when joining large structures particularly aimed at the renewable energy generation sectors. This technology has been demonstrated to weld thick sections up to 250 mm in steels and light alloys. Welds can be made in a fraction of the time - over 20 times quicker than conventional arc welding methods. This will enable manufacturers in several sectors to gain massive increases in throughput that will change their business models and unlock the true manufacturing potential of their facilities. As filler materials are not needed, consumable costs are kept down to a minimum while reduced transportation costs and a smaller factory carbon footprint offer further savings.
