Last January, a Carnegie Mellon supercomputer beat some of the world's best poker players. This infographic breaks down how AI progressed to this point.

The first Artificial Intelligence developers used chess to teach their programs how to think, and by the 1990s, the machines were able able to beat the best human players in the world. Earlier this year, poker-playing AI systems developed by two different universities, Carnegie Mellon and the University of Alberta, took down the best in that game.
