Preventing Mold 101

Printer Friendly VersionEmail A FriendAdd This
Pallets should be seen and not heard. After all, no shipper wants its product rejected, refused or recalled because of substandard pallets. In the last year, however, several highpublicizedproduct recalls were blamed on pallets treated against mold with the fungicide2,4,6-tribromophenol, or TBP. When a pallet treated with TBP becomes wet, thechemical can breakdown into another chemical known as 2,4,6-tribromoanisole (TBA),which releases a moldy, musty smell. In some instances, that odor could be absorbed bythe product transported on the pallet. Or so some manufacturers claim.
