Achieving Safe Tanker Truck Loading/Unloading
The loading and unloading of tank trucks containingflammable or combustible products, has long beenrecognized as one of the most serious fire andexplosion risks for hazardous industry operations. Astudy conducted by the American Petroleum Institutein 1967, for example, identified static discharges asbeing responsible for more than 60 incidents in tanktruck loading operations. Since then more stringentpreventive standards have been developed andsignificant advancements have been made in thetechnology of static electric discharge prevention. Yetaccidents traced to static electric discharges stilloccur with sometimes tragic results.
