Tolomatic has added a new size to its line of ERD rod-style electric actuators  to provide higher forces and longer stroke lengths to serve more application requirements. The new ERD20 is designed with a larger diameter ball screw and a stroke length of up to 24 inches (609.6 mm). With this line extension, ERD rod-style electric actuators now deliver forces up to 500 pounds (2224 N). ERD actuators are stroke configurable and ship within five days from order entry at the factory. The products are suitable for a wide variety of applications, including product change-overs, pick-and-place, sorting and diverting, pressing and more.

The ERD family of rod-style electric actuators is available in body sizes that are equivalent to non-repairable pneumatic cylinder bore sizes of 5/8-inch (15.88-mm), 1-inch (25.4-mm), 1.5-inch (38.1-mm) and 2-inch (50.8-mm). Strokes are available in lengths up to 8 inches (203.2 mm) for the ERD06, 10 inches (254 mm) for the ERD10, and 24 inches (609.6 mm). for the ERD15 and 20 sizes, Forces range up to 20 pounds (89 N) for the smallest size, and to 500 pounds (2224 N) for the ERD20. The actuators accept a wide variety of NEMA and metric stepper and servo motors. In addition, all four sizes of the ERD product family are offered with 300 series stainless steel options and IP67 options for harsh environments, such as the food and beverage industry.

The ERD actuators can accommodate six different sensing or switching choices: reed, solid-state PNP (sourcing), solid-state NPN (sinking), normally open, flying leads or quick-disconnect. The switches are activated by a standard internal magnet located inside the thrust tube. Commonly used for end-of-stroke positioning, these switches allow clamp-on installation anywhere along the actuator tube. All switches are CE rated and are RoHS compliant for environmental compatibility.
